I was sick for most of last month and instead of taking it easy, I made a little video as an homage to Jean Painleve’s 1955 film of Alexander Calder performing his circus to showcase some of the new designs we have in the store this month, including the Cecile dress, the new stripey Smith shorts, and the Fern top! I don’t usually introduce this many new designs at once, but I wanted to focus on using vintage fabrics this month and the stripes and colors really leant themselves to the circus theme!
The doll and the toys are all made from scrap fabrics and bits and pieces that i had lying around the store. The doll’s frame is made from the wires I removed from old shipping labels, which I then wrapped in yarn leftover from some of my hand knit pieces. All of the toys are stuffed with scrap fabric, which isn’t the easiest and doesn’t make them super squishy, but it gets the job done!
Is this the most practical way of showcasing new designs? Probably not. But it was a lot of fun to put together and sometimes I need a little distraction to keep myself (relatively) sane.
